Balanced Equine Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate is a scientifically proven superior source of zinc supplementation for horses

Zinc sulfate monohydrate is a nutritional supplement product for inclusion in horse's feed. Product has no therapeutic effect and is designed to be administered in a feed for voluntary ingestion for horses.

You can choose between two sizes; net weight of 2.9 kg and 4.9 kg. 2.9 kg is the maximum amount allowed in a 3 kg satchel and 4.9 kg for a 5 kg satchel as the packaging is counted by Australia Post.

Zinc sulfate monohydrate is for horses with diets deficient in zinc or high in zinc antagonists, such as diets that include high iron intake or excessive levels of copper.  In combination with copper, zinc is also helpful for horses with bleached coats and red ends on manes and tails.

Zinc plays a role in a variety of functions within the horse’s body.  It supports the production of:

  • Coat and skin pigment
  • Structures on proteins called zinc fingers allow them to bind to DNA
  • The folding and structure of proteins
  • Transport of carbon dioxide in the blood
  • Bone building and remodelling
  • Insulin production and release
  • Also acts as a cellular messenger in the immune system
  • Linked to poor appetite

Note:
Balanced Equine does not recommend supplementation of zinc in isolation. Zinc supplementation should be considered along with levels of copper in the intake. The ratios of minerals are important and feeding one mineral without supplementing correct levels of another can be detrimental to horse health.

*Balanced Equine offers single ingredients like zinc sulfate monohydrate for people who know what they need to supplement, either have received a Balanced Equine feeding plan with the custom mineral mix recipe that they can put together OR they may have done NRCPlus with Dr Kellon VMD drkellon.com and understand how to calculate what to supplement. Balanced Equine cannot advise the amount to supplement without data.*

The easiest and best way to know what your horse's intake is deficient in, or what is excessive and out of balance, is to test what your horses eat - pasture or hay.

Horse consumption only.

Background information

Zinc is one of the trace minerals and though required in a relatively small amount, all the trace minerals are as important as the major minerals. Also equally important are the mineral ratios, the ideal ratio for copper to zinc is 1:3 to take into account any competition from sulfur and issues associated with too much iron.
